Apple to Unveil M4-Based Macbooks in the Coming Weeks? Here’s What We Know

Apple is gearing up for its next event, which will focus on the latest generation of MacBooks, featuring new and advanced M4 chips. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is preparing to unveil these new MacBooks in the coming weeks. In his latest newsletter, Gurman indicates that the new line of Macs will be powered by the M4 chip, promising significant improvements in processing speed and machine learning capabilities. He emphasizes that the M4 chip is expected to provide up to 1.5 times faster CPU performance than its predecessor, the M2, and offer up to four times more rendering power for tasks like video editing and 3D design.

Similar to the iPhone 16 series, which includes the A18 chip for AI tasks, the new MacBooks are expected to feature Apple Intelligence built into the M4 chip. While details about this AI functionality have not yet been revealed, it is expected to improve the user experience with new automation features, personalized recommendations, and smarter system management across the Mac ecosystem.

Here’s What We Can Expect From the Upcoming M4-Based MacBook

According to the report, several new Mac models may be unveiled at the upcoming event. Here is the list of those models:

  • Model J604: Apple is preparing to launch a lower-priced 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by an M4 processor that will deliver high performance at a lower price.
  • Model J614 and J616: Apple will also introduce premium 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with advanced M4 processor options, delivering increased processing power tailored to the needs of professionals who demand exceptional performance.
  • Model J623: Apple is poised to launch a refreshed version of the iMac featuring an M4 processor that will deliver improved desktop performance.
  • Model J773: The Mac mini gets an upgrade, with both the standard M4 and M4 Pro variants available. This compact but powerful desktop is aimed at users looking for top-of-the-line performance in a smaller package.

As for availability, Gurman speculates that while most of the new Mac models are ready to ship, Apple may opt for a simultaneous launch. Some high-end MacBook Pros and Mac mini with the M4 Pro processor are still in production, but they are expected to launch with the rest of the lineup.
