The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the NDA government have planned events across the country to mark 100 days in office of the new government on Tuesday, which coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 74th birthday. Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the political stability in the country, highlighting the efforts made by the central government over the last 10 years. He also emphasised that this stability was a key factor in driving the country’s growth and development, pointing to significant progress in various sectors under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Reflecting on the achievements of the Modi government in its third term, Shah said projects worth nearly Rs 15 lakh crore were launched in the first 100 days. Talking about the government’s focus on political stability and policy continuity, he noted that after 60 years, India is experiencing a period of sustained stability that has enabled consistent and effective policy implementation.

Infrastructure boom in the first 100 days

The Union Home Minister explained that the government has divided these achievements into 14 key pillars. Focusing on infrastructure, he revealed that projects worth Rs 3 lakh crore have not only been announced but have also entered the implementation phase. The most significant development is the development of a mega port at Wadhwan, Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 76,000 crore. Once operational, this port is expected to be among the top ten ports in the world from the very beginning, he added.

“I can proudly say that India has become the manufacturing hub of the world… Many countries across the world are keen to understand our Digital India campaign and make it the foundation of their development… We have brought discipline and progress in all 13 parameters of the economy. The world recognises that India has a bright future in the space sector… For the first time after Independence, the world has seen a government that has a backbone in its foreign policy… 60 crores of Indians have been provided with houses, toilets, gas, drinking water, electricity, 5 kg of free ration and healthcare services to the tune of 5 lakhs… Our aim is that when we go to elections next time, there will be no one who does not own a home,” Shah added.

Connecting 25,000 villages with paved roads

In another major initiative, Shah announced the launch of a project to connect 25,000 villages with paved roads. With a budget of Rs 49,000 crore, the scheme is expected to benefit even smaller villages with a population of 100 or more. The government has also earmarked Rs 50,600 crore for the expansion of India’s major road networks, underlining its commitment to improving transport infrastructure.

Support for airports and metro projects

Amit Shah also unveiled the expansion of several key airports, including Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, Bagdogra in West Bengal, Bihta in Bihar, and new runways at Agatti and Minicoy to boost tourist footfall. Metro projects in cities, including Bengaluru Metro, Pune Metro and Thane Integrated Ring Metro, also registered significant progress in the first 100 days.

Support for farmers and agricultural reforms

Focusing on agriculture, Shah highlighted the 17th instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme under which Rs 20,000 crore has been distributed to 9.5 crore farmers. So far, a total of Rs 3 lakh crore has been distributed to 12.33 crore farmers under the scheme. Besides, the government has abolished the minimum export price of basmati rice and reduced the export duty on onions from 40% to 20%. A new agriculture fund ‘Agri Sure’ has also been launched to ensure financial security of farmers, Shah added.

Strengthened position and security of India in the world

Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening India’s position in the world and ensuring the country’s security. He said that under Modi’s leadership, India has gained respect across the world, with 15 countries conferring their highest honours on the prime minister. Shah also said that India now has a more assertive foreign policy, which has increased its global prestige.

Middle-Class Relief and a Future in Space

Shah also highlighted the several benefits that the middle class has received in the first 100 days of his third term. He reiterated that Rs 3 lakh crore has been transferred to the accounts of over 12 crore farmers. He also reiterated the government’s focus on space exploration, declaring that India’s future in space is bright. Having achieved these milestones in just 100 days, the government seems to be setting the stage for further development and reforms in the years to come, with a focus on infrastructure, agriculture and India’s global position.
