Tech News: Google May Enable Notification Sync on Android Devices: Report | Tech News

Android apps typically display notifications separately on each device they are installed on, without registering when a notification was displayed on one device. As a result, notifications that a user saw on one device reappear as unread on another. This is because notification status is not synchronized across devices.

Google is apparently planning to eliminate duplicate notifications. According to Android Authority, the company may be working on a fix for the issue, as suggested by code discovered in the latest Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 update released last week.

According to the report, a reference to a “cross-device sync” feature was found while investigating the latest update. The option is said to appear in Settings, specifically in Notifications, alongside “sensitive notifications” and a new “notification wait time” feature. The location of the class controlling the “cross-device sync” option also suggests that notifications may be synced across devices.

According to Android Authority, the new syncing option could lead to the creation of a new page in the Google Play Services app that will focus on syncing notifications across Android devices. While there’s no official confirmation, the feature is expected to be available across the entire Android ecosystem, not just Pixel devices.

This potential feature will streamline the Android experience, making it more fluid and user-friendly while eliminating the need to see the same notification multiple times.
