Apple Sports app supports Live Activities on iOS 18 and watchOS 11

iOS 18 is now available for supported iPhones worldwide. Additionally, Apple has released version 2.0 of its Apple Sports app. The new version introduces an updated navigation system and one big new feature: support for Live Activities. It may be the best feature the app has.

Apple Sports is an app that debuted earlier this year (in February) and focuses on tracking sports scores. Oddly enough, the app didn’t support Live Activities on the iPhone. Live Activities is a feature that lets you view scores on the lock screen and automatically update them.

Previously, Apple included Live Activities for scores in its TV app, not the iPhone and Apple Watch Sports apps. But now, with this new update (Apple Sports 2.0), the app can finally enjoy its own Live Activities support, while the TV app loses this feature iOS18.

In August this year, Apple announced that this feature was in the works and now, with iOS18 update, the feature has finally landed. You need to run iOS18 on your iPhone and watchOS 11 on your Apple Watch to watch live broadcasts from the Sports app.

This feature is even cooler if you have a Pro-branded iPhone with an Always-on display, so you can follow your favorite team’s players right from the lock screen without any hassle. On the Apple Watch, Live Activities are now added to the Smart Stack with watchOS 11, so you can track things from your watch as well.

But that’s not all! Today’s update also includes an updated navigation system for the Sports app. The changes now expand the menu in the top right corner, and some options have been rearranged. Before the update, the menu opened a completely new screen, but now it’s easier and faster to switch between different sports.

With new updates, the Apple Sports app is now more interesting than ever, and many sports fans will now be able to enjoy the Live Activities feature iOS18 and watchOS 11. I’m very excited about this feature, although the app is unfortunately not yet available in Europe (it’s only available in the US, Canada, and UK at the moment).
