In August 2024, Curacao was visited by 58,291 guests

WILLEMSTAD – Curacao Tourist Board is proud to announce another remarkable double-digit increase in staycation arrivals. The island recorded a solid 18% increase in arrivals compared to August of the previous year, with 9,033 more staycation guests. A total of 58,291 staycation guests were welcomed in August 2024.

The last weekend of August brought a significant influx of visitors thanks to the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival. Initial data indicates that this edition attracted a significant number of tourists, especially from Aruba, Suriname, Colombia, Brazil, the United States and the Netherlands.

Top 3 Source Markets in August

Netherlands: In August, 20,935 Dutch guests were registered, which is an increase of 22% compared to the 17,146 arrivals for a stay in August 2023. The majority of Dutch guests chose non-resort accommodation (52%), while the remaining 48% stayed in a resort during their stay. The Dutch spent an average of 11.7 nights in August.

United States: The US continues to be a strong market, up 24% from 11,834 in August 2023, for a total of 14,703 arrivals in August 2024. The US market’s lodging preferences include a wide range of resort hotels (69%), while the remaining 31% opted for other lodging options available on the island. On average, US visitors stayed 5.6 nights in August. US visitors came primarily from New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

Colombia: The number of visitors from Colombia increased by 37%, to 4,317 arrivals in August 2024 compared to 3,153 in August 2023. On average, Colombian visitors stayed 4.9 nights in August. In terms of accommodation choices, 54% of Colombian visitors opted for resort hotels.

The most important events of 2024

The first eight months of 2024 have shown impressive results, with 464,017 staycation arrivals, an increase of 24% compared to the same period last year. All of our focus markets are showing strong arrival numbers in the first eight months. To date, Curaçao has welcomed 165,980 Dutch visitors, while 120,078 visitors are registered from the USA. Colombia, Brazil and Canada have registered 31,272, 27,981 and 23,505 visitors respectively. Counting cruise, day trip and staycation guests, a total of 1,042,754 arrivals have been registered from January to August 2024, an increase of 23% compared to the same period last year.
