Exploding pagers in Lebanon spark theories about sabotage methods

Since the pagers began appearing in Lebanon on Tuesday, theories have been circulating about how the devices considered outdated in most of the world were transformed into deadly weapons that have killed scores of people and injured nearly 3,000.

When Lebanon accused Israel of orchestrating the attack on Hezbollah fighters, much of the debate focused on the possibility that the supply chain for the retro devices had been compromised. One prevailing view was that the pagers were designed to heat up their batteries until the devices exploded.
