While emergency services will resume, outpatient clinic (OPD) services will remain temporarily suspended.

A member of the junior doctors’ front, Dr Aqeeb, while talking to ANI, said they have secured a commitment from the state government to improve their safety and security, after a meeting with the chief secretary. However, the timeline for implementation remains uncertain.

“On the 41st day of the protest, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front wants to say that we have achieved a lot during our agitation, but many things remain unachieved. We have made the Kolkata Police Commissioner resign, DME and DHS resign. But that does not mean that the agitation is over. We will take it up in a new way. We have received a directive from Nabanna after our meeting with the Chief Secretary yesterday. The directive assured us that security measures will be implemented, but it did not specify when,” he said.

“The culture of insecurity has claimed the life of ‘Abhaya’… We continue to demand the removal of the Chief Secretary and action on the culture of insecurity,” he added.

Aqeeb further stated that he will take out a rally from Swasthya Bhawan to the Central Government Offices (CGO) complex, adding that Abhaya will always be their priority and all attention will be on the upcoming Supreme Court hearing and government action.

“Tomorrow we are taking out a rally from Swasthya Bhawan to CGO complex and ending our protest. We will keep a close watch on the administration after we return to duty… If we find anything out of place, we will come back stronger. We will resume work on Saturday and resume essential services,” he said.

“The OPD (Outpatient Department) and OT (Operation Theatre) services will remain suspended as we want to ensure that measures are taken to ensure the safety of our colleagues. Our agitation will continue. Justice for Abhaya will always be our priority and our eyes will be on the Supreme Court hearing and the steps taken by the government,” Aqeeb added.

Speaking to ANNAAqeeb also noticed the flood problem and stood up for the victims, emphasizing the value of solidarity and mutual assistance in the face of adversity.

“There is a flood issue and it is our duty that those who stood by us, if they face any disaster, should be there to help them. Hence, we have decided to leave this protest site, take out a rally at the CGO complex and demand that the CBI continues and speeds up the investigation so that Abhaya can get justice,” he said.

“Still, no steps have been taken to make women doctors feel safe in hospitals… There should be proper elections in hospitals so that elected representatives can come and listen to the grievances of students,” he added.

Earlier on September 10, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court had ordered the remand of Sandip Ghosh and three others till September 23 in connection with the financial irregularities case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh on September 2 as part of its probe into alleged corruption and financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The investigation was initiated on the directive of the Calcutta High Court.

Additionally, on August 26, the CBI conducted a second round of polygraph examination of Dr Ghosh in connection with the ongoing investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a female doctor working at the facility, who was found dead in a seminar room on August 9.
