Now you can use Windows on your smartphone using Windows Apps

Fresh off the heels of product recalls, Microsoft is rolling out another product today that shows a lot of promise: Windows Apps bring your desktop experience to your phone, tablet, and laptop, letting you access Windows no matter where you are.

The news comes from an official Microsoft blog post that discussed the release of a new Windows app. The app is essentially a launcher for the Microsoft PC cloud client. It streams it online through various sources like Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, and more. It essentially acts as a hub from which you can manage and control Microsoft services, virtual desktops, and local office PCs.

The Windows app also supports multiple monitors, customizable home screens, dynamic display resolution, and device redirection. The latter lets you seamlessly use connected webcams, USB drives, printers, and other peripherals from your phone or any other device as if they were connected to your Windows desktop in the cloud. Here’s a preview from Microsoft:

However, the company is not making the app available to everyone. It is only available to those with Microsoft work or school accounts. That’s because it has been in the works for some time. There are currently no plans to make the Windows App available to consumers.

All users of the Microsoft Remote Desktop client will now switch to the Windows app. If you have a Microsoft work or school account, you can download it and try it out for yourself. The Windows app is available directly from this website or from the Microsoft Store, or you can download it to your phone through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

If you have access to the app and have tried it out, please share your experiences with us. If you don’t have a work or school account, let us know in the comments if you’d like to see the app made publicly available.
