ForbesToday’s clues and answers for the NYT Mini Crossword for Wednesday, September 18

We are in the second half of September, with only a few days of summer left. This week, autumn is in the air, temperatures are dropping and leaves are already falling. People are already decorating for Halloween. Winter is coming.

In other words, it’s a good time. A good time to solve today’s Mini Crossword!

NYT Mini is a smaller, faster, more digestible, condensed version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger counterpart, it’s free without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or in the app, but you’ll need the app to handle the archive.

Of course, spoilers. Continue reading to see all the answers and an image of today’s completed puzzle.

BY

1 — From 4 and 5 levels, the opposite of fantasy land — THE

4 — See 1-across — REAL

5 — See 1-across — WORLD

6 — A bend in the road — A CURVE

7 – Be in the driver’s seat – DRIVE

DOWN

1 – in French “land” – TERRE

2 — Cut in half — HALF

3 — ____ statesman — ELDER

4 – Overwhelming Victory – DEFEAT

5 – Rooms with toilets, in European abbreviation – WCS

That was tough! Of course, the first three words in ACROSS can’t be guessed without the help of DOWN, so I skipped them. I threw in CURVE and HALVE, and at that point everything became clearer. Next was ROUT, and after that STEER. Now I had enough letters to start filling in the gaps. THE REAL WORLD solved this task, and I still don’t know why in European shorthand the bathroom is called WCS. I solved today’s mini-challenge in 1:40. How did you do? Let me know on TwitterInstagram or Facebook.

If you also play Wordle, I also write guides on that. You can find them and all my TV guides, reviews and more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
