Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Md Nahid Islam said the government plans to cover more sectors, including education and mass media, with reforms.

“Six commissions have been established under the ‘state reform program’ and meetings of these commissions have already been held. The reform commissions will start working from October,” he said.

Nahid, who is also an advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, spoke at a food aid distribution event for flood-affected people at Bangakha High School and Jadiya Fazil Madrasha. He then visited two flood-hit Laxmipur Sadar municipal unions.

The Commission will prepare the outline of the reform through discussion with interested officials and experts. The reform process will then be launched in accordance with their recommendations.

He added that the trial of fascists will take place on the territory of this country.

“Judiciary power has been handed over to the army and we hope that the law and order situation will return to normal soon,” he said.

The advisor said the government would implement a rehabilitation programme for flood-affected people as soon as possible.

Nahid noted that floodwaters in Laxmipur are slowly receding as encroachment has blocked canals in the district. He mentioned that residents are starting to return home as the water level is coming down.

He also stressed that steps would be taken to clear all canals in the district from illegal encroachments.

The adviser added that the government has already allocated funds to rebuild homes damaged by the flood.

Laxmipur Deputy Commissioner Rajib Kumar Sarker and other officials of the local administration were also present.
