Indie App Spotlight: ‘Pyxis’ Is a Location-Based Note-Taking App

Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is 9to5Mac’s weekly series where we highlight the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and would like your app to be featured, contact us.

Pyxis is a cool new location-based note-taking app that lets you quickly jot down things, attach photos, and assign tags to keep things organized. Once you’ve saved a note, you can view it all on a neat little globe, allowing you to easily browse your notes based on where you took them.

The app is great for photographers, field workers, travelers, or anyone who wants to take location-based notes. If you want to remember something about a specific place you found, this app will help you do that. You can also open the pins in Apple Maps or Google Maps later to get a better geographical idea of where the note was taken.

Once you have some notes, you can categorize them into tags, which you can assign a color and name to. Once you have created tags, you can use them to filter the globe view, which can help reduce clutter if you decide to use an app.

Pyxis supports iCloud Sync, so all your notes, photos, and tags will be available on all your devices. The app also doesn’t require your location to work, as you can drag and drop pins, although that makes things easier. It also has features for searching nearby locations to add to your collection after sharing your location.

The app’s developers say they plan to improve iPad support, work on the visionOS app, and add data backup and export options in future updates.

Whether you’re trying to plan places for a road trip or some type of trip, or you just want to remember things about specific places while writing a note, Pyxis is the app for you! Pyxis is also great for tracking specific places in your city that may not be visible on a map, like locations with public restrooms, places with free parking, or niche restaurants that may not be listed on Apple or Google Maps.

Pyxis is available for free on the App Store with 5 free notes, and a premium version with the full set of features is available for $0.99/month or $9.99/year. You’ll need an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later.
