Microsoft Launches Windows App for iOS and Android

Microsoft has introduced a new app that allows users to stream Windows across devices. The app works on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, web browsers, Android devices, and even Windows PCs. It allows users to access a cloud-based version of Windows from sources like Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Remote Desktop.

The new app has been in testing for almost a year now. It comes with several useful features that improve the user experience. One of the standout features is the customizable home screen that users can personalize according to their preferences. It also supports multiple monitors, allowing users to work seamlessly across multiple screens. Additionally, the app includes USB redirection, which means users can connect local devices like webcams, storage devices, and printers to the cloud computer. These devices function as if they were physically connected to the local computer, making remote work more efficient.

The app is primarily designed for Microsoft work and school accounts. Its goal is to provide a more unified experience for users who rely on remote desktop clients. Microsoft has a long history of offering tools for connecting to remote computers, such as the Remote Desktop Connection app, which is still included in Windows 11. This new app serves the same purpose but provides a more modern and streamlined experience for users who need to access work computers from personal laptops or other devices.

Windows app does not have consumer support yetWindows Application

The app currently doesn’t support regular consumer accounts. However, Microsoft has long-term plans to move Windows entirely to the cloud. This would enable better AI-powered services and give users more flexibility by allowing them to access their Windows experience from any device, anywhere.

The Windows app is now available for download in the Microsoft Store. Users can also find it in the Apple App Store for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. The Android version is now in public preview and ready for testing.
