The small Zigbee 3.0 switch SONOFF ZBMINIR2 can also be used as a Zigbee router supporting up to 64 slave devices

SONOFF ZBMINIR2 is a small Zigbee smart switch that looks very similar to SONOFF Zigbee Extreme (ZBMINIL2), but requires a neutral wire and can function as a Zigbee router with up to 64 sub-devices. It also supports new features such as “Turbo mode” for extended range and “relay disconnect” mode, in which the states of external switches and the relay are separated, so pressing the external switch button will not affect the relay state.

This tiny wireless switch fits into the smallest EU/86/120 size mounting boxes and works with Zigbee 3.0 gateways such as ZBBridge Pro, NSPanel Pro and other compatible Zigbee 3.0 hubs. It also supports external switches (momentary, door, SPDT and rocker), voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Home, and like other SONOFF devices, it is designed to be controlled via eWelink mobile app by default.

Wiring instructions

The ZBMINIR2 is much smaller than the original ZBMINI and offers a few extra features. The ZBMINIL2 is better suited for installations without a neutral wire, but otherwise the ZBMINIR2 offers more options and features. You can find a comparison of the three models in the table below. Paisit has reviewed the ZBMINIL2 with eWelink and Home Assistant, so you can check that post to better understand how the switch integrates with MQTT-compatible frameworks. SONOFF ZBMINIR2 review coming soon too.

While the ZBMINIR2 should be compatible with any Zigbee 3.0 hubs, getting a SONOFF Zigbee hub like the iHost provides better compatibility. The Zigbee2MQTT is also fully compatible with SONOFF’s Zigbee device, meaning it should integrate seamlessly with Home Assistant like its predecessor.
