Andrew Cuomo Criticizes Far-Left, Progressive Politics in Speech: ‘Things Are Getting Worse’

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized progressive policies and defended law enforcement in a passionate speech against far-left politics on Sunday.

Speaking at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, New York, Cuomo began by endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, calling her “intelligent and qualified.”

“She will unite the Democrats,” the former politician said. “She will bring new energy. And with Donald Trump as the opponent, we have seen that and we will not go back to that.”

The Democrat, however, noted that Harris taking office “won’t solve all our problems” because the government “isn’t working for people at the most basic level” and launched into a six-minute tirade against progressive policies.

“Things are getting worse, not better,” Cuomo continued. “And I think it’s time for us to take a fresh look at this and adopt a new perspective as we look at what’s going on.”

“Today we have a big political argument on the Democratic side: Who is more progressive?” he added. “I don’t think they even know what the word progressive means. You can’t be progressive if you’re not making progress.”

Cuomo, who served as New York governor from 2011 to 2021, said the United States was “going backward” due to progressive policies.

“Some people think that saying, ‘Defund the police,’ is progressive,” he noted. “Yes, in theory, if everyone had an education and everyone had a job, no one would have to commit crime. I understand the theory, but it’s not that simple.”

“’Defund the police’ are the three stupidest words ever uttered in politics,” Cuomo added.

Cuomo also highlighted New York’s migrant problem, saying the government “cannot allow 100,000 migrants to come to New York and New York alone.”

“Nowhere else in New York State, only in New York City,” the Democrat said. “And let’s leave it all to New York to pay for hotels, to pay for health care, over $10 billion. No plan from the federal government, no real help from the state.”

Cuomo then encouraged the audience to “forget about labels” and remember to vote in November.

“Remember the only questions that matter: Who will help you and your family, and who will get the job done?” he concluded.
