Apple finally gives iPhone users the ability to record calls, even though privacy is a priority for it. If you’ve updated to iOS 18, follow these steps

Apple has finally introduced a few features in iOS 18 that were originally seen on Android phones. One such feature is call recording. The tech giant added native call recording and transcription features for iPhone users with the iOS 18 update this year. Previously, iPhone users had to use third-party apps to record calls. The iOS 18 features were showcased during a keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2024, and call recording was part of the slides the company showed off at the event.

The new feature is supported in the Phone app. Similar to Android devices, iPhone users will be able to instantly start, pause, and stop recording during an ongoing call. The iOS 18 update will also allow you to get an AI-powered summary of these calls with a full transcript if required. Users must note that they will need to download and install the iOS 18.1 Beta update on their iPhones to get this feature.

How to Record Calls on iPhone

– Make or receive a call

– Once the call is connected, tap the “Record” button located in the upper left corner of the call screen.

– On the call screen, iPhone will display a pop-up saying: “This call will be recorded.”

– Do not skip the notification. If you do, the recording will automatically stop.

– You can stop recording by tapping the “Stop” button.

It’s worth noting that Apple will automatically inform the person on the other end that the conversation is being recorded. With iOS 18, users will be able to transcribe recorded conversations to conveniently keep a log of the conversation.

Once the call is over, the call recording and the transcribed version of the recording will be saved in the Notes app. Go to the Notes app and find the dedicated “Call Recordings” folder. There you will find all the call recordings in Notes > Call Recordings.

The Cupertino tech giant also mentioned that the audio transcription feature for calls is limited to only certain languages for now, such as English (US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore), German, French, Spanish (US, Mexico), Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and Portuguese (Brazil). The feature is expected to be added to other languages in future updates.
