The winners of the 2024 Australian Good Design Awards were announced last weekend. The Beas Driving Light won the Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Product Design category for its exceptional design and innovation.

The BEAST Driving Light is a new addition to the brand’s proven and efficient driving lights range. Australian automotive lighting company Lightforce.

The Good Design Awards were presented at a gala at the Sydney International Convention Centre, presenting the pinnacle of design, attended by over 1,000 distinguished guests from the worlds of design, architecture, engineering and business.

This year’s conference theme, “The Design Effect,” highlighted the critical role design plays in shaping better products, services, spaces and experiences, while driving transformation towards a more sustainable, lower-emissions future.

The Australian Good Design Awards highlighted that design not only enhances functionality and aesthetics, but also significantly contributes to business success and social development.

The jury praised the BEAST Driving Light, commenting: “These innovative high beam lights feature unique form and functionality, with three operating modes that can be switched from inside the vehicle and a military-inspired design.

“It breaks away from conventional styles and offers advanced features that were previously only possible through external modifications.

“The jury praises the high beam for its bold design and innovative functionality. Its distinctive look and practical features, such as internal mode switching, set a new standard in high beam, enhancing both usability and aesthetics in a competitive market.”

Rachel Wye, Managing Director of Good Design Australia, commented: “This year’s awards reflect the profound impact that exceptional design can have on people, places and the planet.

“The projects recognised in these awards are examples of how thoughtful design can drive meaningful change, not only improving user experiences and the way people interact with the world, but also contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous future.

“The Australian Good Design Awards proudly recognise and celebrate truly inspiring work across design disciplines, sectors and industries in Australia and overseas.”

The 2024 awards recognised excellence in 12 design disciplines and over 32 categories.

The awards recognise a diverse range of projects from Australia and overseas, spanning architectural design, engineering, digital and communications design, as well as emerging areas such as design strategy, social impact and policy design – a new, distinct category introduced in 2024.

This year’s entries were subjected to rigorous evaluation by over 80 distinguished jurors from around the world, including designers, engineers, architects and industry leaders.

The evaluation process focused on three basic criteria:good design, design innovation and design impact, ensuring each winner demonstrated exceptional quality and effectiveness of design. These awards showcase the best of design, confirming the key role that design plays in shaping a better, more sustainable future for business and society.

“The Australian Good Design Awards celebrate the transformative power of design to solve complex business, environmental and social challenges. This year’s winners demonstrate how design can help drive innovation, generate growth and implement sustainability principles,” added Wye.

The Australian Good Design Awards, which dates back to 1958, are the country’s most prestigious international accolade for design and innovation. As the awards mark another year of excellence, they continue to reflect the rich heritage and future potential of Australian and international design.

Ms Wye concluded: “We are honoured to celebrate this year’s winners, whose work not only represents design excellence but also inspires future designers, architects and innovators. These projects are testament to the power of good design and its ability to make a significant, positive impact on our world.”
