Kyle Chandler to Star in DC Green Lantern Series ‘Lanterns’ for HBO

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy Award winner Kyle Chandler is in negotiations to star in Lanternspopular HBO series based on the DC comic book “Green Lantern,” sources tell Deadline.

No one is commenting on this, but I’ve heard that Chandler is set to play Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern character played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film.

Series from Ozark Chris Mundy, The guardsFrom The Guardian’s Damon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King comes the story of new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the heart of America.

The search for an actor to play John Stewart is still ongoing.

Eight episodes Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy, who will serve as showrunner, Lindelof and King are co-writers and executive producers. The project, which received a series order in June, is one of the first titles to come out of the revamped DC Studios.

“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most fascinating characters, and Lanterns brings them back to life in an original detective story that forms a foundational part of the unified DCU we’ll launch next summer Superman“, DC Studios co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran said in announcing the series.
