LONDON — Canada will face three-time champion Germany in the Davis Cup quarterfinals in Malaga, Spain, in November.

Canada secured its place in the quarterfinals – also known as the Final 8 knockout stage – by defeating Great Britain 2-1 last weekend in Manchester, England.

World No. 21 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal was the mainstay of a five-player team that included Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont.; Gabriel Diallo of Montreal; Alexis Galarneau of Laval, Que.; and Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, B.C.

The draw for the eight quarter-final teams took place on Thursday at the headquarters of the International Tennis Federation.

Defending champion Italy will play Argentina, the United States will meet Australia and Spain will face the Netherlands. Details of the schedule have not yet been released, but the Final 8 will be played from November 19-24.

Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz were unbeaten in doubles last week, helping Germany reach the quarterfinals. The country’s top singles player — second-ranked Alex Zverev — did not play.

The Canadians defeated Germany in the quarterfinals to claim their only Davis Cup title in 2022. The Germans won the title in 1988, 1989 and 1993.
