One person dead after vehicle crashes into tree near Palm Desert

One person died Tuesday morning after they crashed a vehicle into a tree near Palm Desert, according to Cal Fire.

The crash was reported at around 8 am and occurred near the intersection of Varner Road and Washington Street, which is in a commercial area just north of Interstate 10.

The driver, who has not been publicly identified by the coroner, was pronounced dead at the scene. A social media post from Cal Fire did not include further information about the crash, which it said is being investigated by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
