India, Australia in talks on comprehensive economic cooperation agreement: Australian minister

New Delhi (India), September 25 (ANI): Australia is continuing negotiations with India on a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement, Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism, Special Minister of State Don Farrell said in a statement while welcoming Minister for Trade and Industry Piyush to Adelaide.

“We continue to negotiate our next trade agreement with India, an ambitious comprehensive economic cooperation agreement,” he added in a statement released to media.

“Our government has also concluded consultations on a new Australia-India economic roadmap, which creates huge growth opportunities for Australian businesses in clean energy, agribusiness, education and skills, and tourism,” he added.

Farrell said our first trade agreement with India had strengthened our economies, creating more jobs and opportunities for businesses and exporters, while also lowering prices at the checkout.

“Since the trade agreement came into force in November 2022, around $30 billion of Australian exports to India have been sold duty-free, and Australians have saved around $225 million on goods from India,” he added.

The Australian minister added that both countries are close partners and our trade, investment and economic relations are growing faster than ever.

During his ongoing visit to Australia, Goyal held a number of productive meetings on the second day (September 24).

He was the chief guest at the 22nd National Conference of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI) in Sydney.

According to data from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, around 1,100 real estate developers from India and Australia participated in the conference.

In his speech, the Minister appealed to the real estate industry to take even more effective actions to improve the living conditions of millions of workers employed in it.

He appreciated the contribution of the real estate sector to the growth of the Indian economy and encouraged its representatives to consider expanding their operations to international markets like Australia.

The minister also met several young leaders of Indian and Australian origin working in various sectors at an event organised by the Indian High Commission and the India-Australia Business Community Alliance (IABCA). (ANI)
