Nothing OS 3.0 with AI-powered app organization, more customization options revealed: Features, release date

The British smartphone maker announced its Nothing OS 3.0 update on Tuesday, alongside the launch of the Nothing Ear Open — its first-ever open-style true wireless (TWS) earbuds. The update, first announced earlier this year , will introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features like natural-language search and intelligent image categorization. It is also said to introduce more customization and personalization options, new apps and widgets, and system-wide performance improvements.

Nothing OS 3.0 Update Features

In a video posted on the Nothing YouTube channel, the company revealed several features included in the upcoming update. While it is not official, it is speculated to be based on Android 15, the latest Android operating system (OS) that was released globally earlier this month.

One of the most noticeable changes in the upcoming Nothing OS 3.0 update is the revamped font. Nothing says it will feature an updated Sans Serif font alongside the existing N-Dot font throughout the operating system as well as in apps, for a more modern, cleaner look. It also includes a new dot animation engine that animates and makes things more dynamic during things like unlocking or charging the phone. It can also display elements like the icons in the weather app in a dot matrix style.

The update also introduces a brand new lock screen that lets you edit more directly. It includes new clock faces, fonts, and design layouts. The quick settings in Nothing OS have also been revamped, and now follow the same grid system as the home screen. Users will also be able to pin apps to the top of the app drawer. Nothing has also introduced a new Countdown widget. As the name suggests, it will let users start a countdown to a specific date, in addition to showing things like their progress through the year. They will also be able to link widgets to friends and family, and share content across devices.

AI features will also be included in Nothing OS 3.0, the Carl Pei-led company confirmed. It will introduce a new intelligent app organization system that will automatically organize apps into different categories based on usage. It was also confirmed that the upcoming Nothing update will include a new Gallery app that uses AI to automatically highlight a key object and segment it from other parts of an image. The company will also introduce other AI features, such as AI automatic image categorization and more natural language search in the coming months. There is no indication that the 3.0 update will be available in open beta from October. Its public rollout will begin in December. The list of supported devices is expected to be revealed soon.
