STAR Media Group (SMG) is hosting the inaugural ESG Summit to highlight the urgency of driving positive change towards a sustainable future.

Dedicated to promoting sustainable development and supporting ESG integration across sectors, the ESG Summit will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on November 6-7.

The two-day conference, spanning a range of activities, brings together influential leaders, decision-makers, investors and sustainability professionals to engage in insightful discussions, share best practices and discover innovative solutions.

This mega event will cover a wide range of topics including the Sustainable Development Goals, climate change mitigation and adaptation, renewable energy, circular economy, social impact, diversity and inclusion, ethical business practices, stakeholder engagement and environmental issues rubrics, social and governance reporting (ESG).

It will also examine how Asia is adapting to the changing economic landscape and adopting innovative solutions.

ESG Summit participants will gain significant insights and new perspectives in creating shared value by delving into best practices, strategies and techniques in unlocking the circular economy.

This includes practicing responsible supply chains, ethical decision-making, understanding ESG materiality identification, risk assessment, ESG disclosure and reporting.

The program also included learning about integrating sustainability into existing business plans, incorporating the social pillar into a sustainability agenda, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and data.

The ESG Summit enables participants to learn cutting-edge techniques from the extensive experience of the conference’s global roster of speakers and engage in thought-provoking panel discussions, keynotes, streaming sessions and interactive wow discussion networks, enabling meaningful exchange and collaboration.

The plenary sessions offer businesses practical guidance on how to deal with a variety of business, regulatory and trade changes, such as carbon border adjustments and sustainable supply chains.

Attendees will be able to choose their own schedule by selecting three streams over the course of the two-day event.

Stream 1 will focus on governance and sustainable reporting, where the leadership of the company’s board and top management will be discussed to ensure that the company is not exposed to reputational risk, financial risk and cybersecurity risk, among others.

Stream 2 will be about economic security and decarbonising the value chain – managing and engaging talent to ensure low attrition, developing their skills and knowledge to have a great career within the company, which in turn develops and strengthens the good employer brand.

Meanwhile, participants interested in digital transformation can look forward to Stream 3, which emphasizes climate and sustainable innovation.

The summit will feature a keynote address on the theme “From Vision to Action: Regional Implementation of NIMP 2030” delivered by Minister of Natural Resources and Sustainable Environment Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad along with a number of distinguished speakers from around the world. These include:

Sime Darby, CEO of Sustainable Real Estate, Dr Yasmin Rasyid, who will shed light on ‘Harmonizing Urban Biodiversity in Real Estate: Sime Darby’s Approach to Real Estate Coexistence’.

Pos Malaysia Group CEO Charles Brewer will deliver a lecture on ‘Leadership and Governance Strategies for ESG Success’.

Prof. Dr. Michael Frese from Asia School of Business (ASB) and Germany’s Leuphana University Lueneburg will shed light on “openness to new technologies and eudaimonic well-being, personal initiative, fun and passion.”

Malaysian Public Advocacy Association for Nature (MAPAN) founder and president Ben Ong will speak on “Support for Entrepreneurship and SMEs: Integrating ESG into the DNA of their business.”

Orbis Business School Managing Director Dennis Akkerman will deliver a lecture on “Ethical Leadership and Corporate Values: Why Cutting corners is not sustainable.”

Bring Back Our Rare Animals (BORA) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr John Payne will address the topic ‘First Steps towards an Environmentally Positive Malaysia’.

ESG BoardRoom CEO Tina Thomas will deliver two separate talks during the two-day conference, covering the topics “ESG Regulation and Compliance: Navigating a Changing Landscape” and “Climate Resilience of Our Future: Adaptation and Sustainability in Critical Sectors.”

PwC Malaysia’s Head of Social Impact, Sustainability and Climate Change, Malar Odayappan, will speak on “Engaging the Next Generation Workforce in ESG Roles: Engaging Everyone in the Sustainability Action Plan.”

Zurich Chief Operating Officer Ally Robertson, Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Sustainability Risk Officer Teresa Wong, and Chief Human Resources Officer MyeLene Teo will participate in a panel discussion to discuss the company’s journey to net zero emissions and its overall operations, with a focus on leadership in sustainability.

Boston Consulting Group managing director and partner Dave Sivaprasad, who leads the Sustainability and Climate Change practice in Southeast Asia, will talk about “Carbon Pricing and Financing in Sustainable Business Transformation.”

Yayasan Hijau Malaysia CEO Dr Nurul Muiz Murad will talk about “Social Program Plans: ESG and Scope 3 Offset Disclosure and Reporting Opportunities”.

ASB Senior Lecturer, Dr. Pieter Stek, will talk about “A Pan-Asian Perspective on ESG Practices.”

Saxon Renewables Founder and Managing Director Reik Ong’s session will focus on “The Strategic Role of Environmental Resources (RECs and Carbon Credits) in Corporate Sustainability Initiatives.”

Givvable Singapore co-founder and Asia-Pacific managing director Naomi Vowels will talk about “The Sustainable Value Chain: How to Align Value Chain Partners with Your Sustainability Goals.”

Thoughts in Gear CEO Margie Ong will speak on “Building Resilient Supply Chains: ESG-Driven Sustainability Pathways.”
