Chief advisor to prof. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to address the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, where he will introduce the new Bangladesh to the global community, highlighting his government’s efforts to realize the dreams of the people, especially the youth.

Professor Yunus is scheduled to address the General Debate of the 79th session of the General Assembly on Friday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am (New York time) and from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm Bangladesh time, a senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told UNB .

The chief adviser will speak on the biggest global platform since he took over as head of the interim government.

The chief advisor will deliver the speech in Bengali, his press secretary Shafiqul Alam told UNB, adding that it will be an epoch-making speech.

In addition to providing the background of the mass uprising of July and August and the role of youth and their dreams for a better Bangladesh, Professor Yunus is likely to highlight his government’s reform agenda, leading the country towards economic stability that ensures a just future for all Bangladeshis.

Professor Yunus’ increased involvement on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York is seen as a major opportunity for him to share his government’s priorities following the mass student-led uprising and economic plans, including where the international community in particular can be helpful in strengthening and stabilizing the economy of Bangladesh.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain said that there has been a major political change in Bangladesh and the country wants to inform the people so that there is no misunderstanding regarding what happened in Bangladesh.

He said Professor Yunus is highly respected around the world and all countries will take his comments seriously.

In his speech, Professor Yunus is expected to provide details of the unimaginable mass uprising that has taken place in Bangladesh over the past two months and his belief in the need to build a state system that is people-oriented, prosperity-oriented and committed to public interest in the coming days.

“Besides, Bangladesh’s strong position in peacekeeping operations to ensure international peace and security, climate change and its impacts, establishing climate justice, global conflict, Rohingya crisis, difficulties of developing countries in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), preventing resource trade with developing countries, security His speech will likely include issues related to immigration, ensuring migrants have access to basic services, sustainable technology transfer in the field of generative artificial intelligence and Palestine, Hossain said.

“It is clear that the caretaker government has initiated reforms to build a new Bangladesh. In this context, this session is a new step for a new Bangladesh in the United Nations or the World Meeting. In this session, we have a golden opportunity to showcase this non-discriminatory and justice-based Bangladesh to the world,” Hossain said.

On September 26, Professor Yunus participated in approximately 15 meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

He is expected to participate in at least six events before leaving for Dhaka on Friday evening.
