The Ministry of Labor is working with Amazon to expand employment opportunities

In a significant move to improve access to employment, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has partnered with Amazon to leverage the National Career Service (NCS) portal, expanding opportunities for job seekers. The two-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) allows Amazon and its third-party staffing agencies to regularly post job vacancies on the NCS portal and includes plans to host job fairs at Model Career Centers (MCCs), facilitating direct interactions between job seekers and Amazon’s recruiting teams.

Union Minister of Labor and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya said, “The NCS portal is being transformed into a one-stop platform for accessing employment opportunities across various sectors and industries. This portal is a game-changer for young job seekers by offering them various employment-related services under one roof. Through our partnership with Amazon, we are increasing job availability for young people in India, enabling them to find the right roles and build a future full of opportunity and growth.”

Highlighting the initiative’s focus on inclusion, Mandaviya added: “We are modernizing the NCS portal to provide a more user-friendly interface, leveraging advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance the experience for job seekers, employers and stakeholders.”

Union Minister Sushri Karandlaje noted, “The National Career Services Portal acts as a dynamic bridge to connect India’s diverse talent pool with opportunities across sectors. When integrated into an ecosystem like Amazon, it will foster skills development, empower individuals, and promote economic growth and employment creation. Integration with a centralized platform like NCS will reduce hiring costs and time while streamlining the hiring of vetted professionals. This is a step forward towards economic inclusion.

Key points of cooperation:

  • Job Vacancies: Amazon will regularly publish job vacancies on the NCS portal and conduct recruitment through it.
  • Job Fairs: The initiative will include job fairs at Model Career Centers, providing opportunities for direct interaction with Amazon recruiting teams.
  • Focus on inclusion: The partnership prioritizes employment opportunities for women and people with disabilities, ensuring equal access.

Benefits for job seekers on the NCS portal:

Job seekers will have access to a wider range of opportunities, particularly in logistics, technology and customer service, through Amazon, one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world. This MoU not only facilitates local hiring but also offers career opportunities with a prestigious organization. As a result, job seekers from different regions of India can find multiple job opportunities, paving the way for a brighter future.

Benefits for Amazon:

Through this partnership, Amazon intends to tap into a diverse talent pool that includes women and people with disabilities through the NCS portal. The ministry will support Amazon through database integration to ensure seamless access to candidates through an efficient technological interface. Additionally, the Ministry will assist in conducting job fairs across the country, facilitating structured interactions with potential employees to help Amazon meet its staffing needs while promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce.

NCS portal:

Launched in July 2015, the National Career Services (NCS) portal has changed the employment landscape in India. Managed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the portal provides essential services such as job search, career counseling, career guidance and skills development resources. It serves millions of people, including job seekers, employers and educational institutions.

This year, the NCS portal celebrated a milestone by crossing 2 million active job vacancies in a single day, with an average of 15-18 lakh job vacancies being displayed at any given time. Currently, there are over 60 lakh active job seekers and 33.5 lakh active employers on the platform, making it an essential tool to bridge the talent-opportunity gap.

The NCS portal is integrated with job portals of 28 states and union territories.
