Paid sharing on Disney+: here’s what you need to know

Disney+ expanded this week your paid sharing program allows users to share a Disney+ subscription with a family member or friend by managing household devices.

These features and capabilities are now available in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and Asia-Pacific after rolling out to select markets this summer.

What is paid sharing, what does it mean for your account, and how will it impact everything Disney+ has to offer? Here’s what you need to know:

How does paid sharing work?

Your Disney+ subscription is intended for use in your household, which is the collection of devices associated with your primary residence and used by the people who live there. But what about people outside your household? They will need to sign up and pay for their own subscription or be added as an Additional Member to your account for an additional monthly fee to continue using Disney+.

Wait, how do I add someone from outside my household to my subscription?

Account holders who want to add someone outside their household to their Disney+ subscription will be able to do so with the Extra Member add-on. For example, in the US, the Extra Member profile will cost an additional $6.99 per month for a Disney+ Basic subscription and $9.99 per month for a Disney+ Premium subscription. Please note that only one Additional Member slot is available per account*.

*Additional Membership is not currently available to Disney Bundle subscribers or subscribers billed through our partners.

Is there an alternative to the Extra Member supplement?

Alternatively, for an additional member, people outside your household can purchase their own subscription to watch Disney+. As an account owner, you can transfer an eligible profile to a new subscription or additional member to maintain that profile’s Disney+ viewing history and settings. Please note that some profiles – including master profiles (account holders), minor profiles, and profiles set to Junior mode – cannot be transferred.

Okay, so can I watch Disney+ on the go?

Yes, if you’re away from home or traveling, you’ll still be able to watch Disney+ on supported devices as an account holder or member of your household.

If you are on the road and see the message It appears that this TV is not part of the household for this accountyou can tag yourself as I’M AWAY FROM HOMEor select UPDATE YOUR HOUSEHOLD if you recently moved and need to reset your household location for your Disney+ subscription. These options will require a one-time password sent to the email address associated with your account.

Is there anything else I need to consider when choosing a paid sharing option on Disney+?
