India is looking for 6,000 MW peak renewable capacity with storage

New Delhi: India is seeking bids to supply 6,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from renewable energy projects to ensure peak-hour supply with storage, according to a tender floated by state-owned SJVN.

India aims to connect a record 35 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind capacity to its grid in the year ending March 2025, with the goal of increasing non-fossil energy generation capacity to 500 GW.

SJVN is seeking power from the interstate transmission system, which carries power across state lines across the country, according to Saturday’s tender notice in the Times of India newspaper.

India added 10 GW of renewable capacity between April and August, the first five months of this fiscal year, bringing the total capacity to about 153 GW, government data showed.

Earlier, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, a top bureaucrat at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, told Reuters that the country expected many battery-connected storage projects
