This redesign of Google Shopping looks completely different from the search engine

In 2021, the Google Shopping app for Android and iOS was retired in favor of a web version. Google Shopping is undergoing quite a noticeable overhaul right now.

The changes start with the logo in the upper right corner. There is an outline version of the Google Shopping icon, and this simplified version looks quite elegant.

Meanwhile, instead of the regular logo, an actual font was used for “Google” to create a more uniform look with “Shopping” following it. On the right side of the app grid and account selector is the “Offers” shortcut.

The blue gradient extends to the app bar with the search box, and the hamburger button is different from other Google apps – the third line is shorter than the first two. This is quite an unexpected change, but it opens the navigation drawer, which actually removes the rounded corners.

“Home Shopping” and “Deals” have colorful icons, and the visible buttons are placed in pill-shaped containers with a gray background.

When you’re actually searching for a product, the “Refine Results” toolbar is placed in a rounded container with bold headings. Also note that the pill-shaped filters have been replaced with rounded rectangles.

However, the biggest change is the insanely funny animation when the page loads behind the “Google Shopping” logo. It brings up a barcode scan that obviously matches the website. The effect is slightly more visible when the dark theme is enabled.

This Google Shopping overhaul is not yet available for all accounts. We see this after logging out (Incognito).

Together, these changes make Google Shopping very different from all other first-party sites. It’s not yet clear whether this marks a new design direction for Google’s search engine.
