Gabby Williams sets record for Caitlin Clark’s WNBA earnings

Gabby Willams, a superstar for the Seattle Storm and Team France, is among the most outspoken critics of the WNBA’s current salary structure.

On Thursday, during an end-of-season interview, Williams criticized the WNBA and its commissioner Cathy Engelbert for failing to keep various financial promises made to players.

“The (NBA) doesn’t think they have to pay us more to be here. And I don’t think I expressed that when I first talked about prioritization,” Williams said. “Our commissioner said we could make $700,000. This is not true at all. There isn’t a single player who can do that.

“We were promised team and league marketing deals, but they did not materialize,” she continued.

Some fans apparently don’t believe Williams’ comments, as she posted a TikTok on Friday in which she further explained her criticism and directly addressed a fan’s comments about the amount of money Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark makes.

“And then to the point of this comment,” Williams said in the video, which was accompanied by a screenshot of a fan who commented “Clark does 😂” (presumably in response to what Williams said Thursday about no WNBA player making $700,000) . “Clark Earns $70,000 in WNBA.”

Clark’s base salary in the WNBA this season is $76,535.

“So I know all these, you know, Caitlin Clark fans or whatever, like, ‘Caitlin Clark makes $700,000.’ This is not a matter of recommendation. I’m not talking about recommendations,” Williams said. “I’m talking about the WNBA. And no, there is not a single player in the entire WNBA who earns the kind of money the commissioner likes to brag about. And that was the purpose of this video.”

The player with the highest annual WNBA salary is Las Vegas Aces defenseman Jackie Young, who earns $252,450. In other words, Williams is telling the whole truth.
