China issues revised rules on praising fallen heroes

BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — China has published a set of revised regulations on praising fallen heroes ahead of Martyrs’ Day on Sept. 30.

Premier Li Qiang signed a decree of the State Council to promulgate revised regulations that emphasize maintaining the leadership of the Communist Party of China, protecting the dignity and honor of fallen heroes, and protecting the rights and interests of their families.

The revised regulations provide for improved criteria and procedures for assessing the identification of martyrs, better financial support and preferential treatment for their families, as well as enhanced protection and management of memorial sites. The revised regulations also emphasize the need to strengthen the dissemination of information about the heroic deeds of martyrs and improve protocols for paying tribute to them.

The amended regulations will come into force on January 1, 2025. Since 2014, China has celebrated Martyrs’ Day every year.
