Ananya Panday on deepfake videos

Yas Island, Abu Dhabi: Actor Ananya Panday whose upcoming film CONTROL KEY looks into the world of artificial intelligence (AI), says government authorities need to come up with some regulations to prevent misuse of the technology.

Recently, top film stars like Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Rashmika Mandanna have fallen victim to fake videos.

Harbinger CONTROL KEY sees Panday’s character asking an AI app to “erase” her lover Joe (Vihaan Samat) from her life after she catches him cheating.

“It’s very scary. As public figures, our faces and voices are visible there. (So) I don’t know how much we can secure. I think it will have to come from government regulations, that’s probably the only solution,” Panday said PTI during a media group interaction on the IIFA Awards 2024 green carpet when he was asked about fake videos of celebrities.

Deepfake is a digital method by which users can convincingly replace the likeness of one person with that of another person, using artificial intelligence technology.

Produced by Saffron and Andolan Films, CONTROL KEY streaming on Netflix will start on October 4. The cyber thriller is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Panday, who was one of the performers at the IIFA Awards 2024, said she was both excited and nervous about her performance on stage.

“Last year was my first stage performance at IIFA, so I was very nervous. This time I was also nervous, but I had more fun. I danced to some of my favorite songs such as Jhumka (With Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani).

“Before I went on stage to perform, I thought, ‘I can’t wait for this to be over.’ But when it was over, I thought, ‘I want to do it again.’ “There’s nothing that compares to the rush of being on stage,” she said.
