Wildfire forces tactical evacuation in Christina Lake, British Columbia

A tactical fire evacuation is underway in Christina Lake, British Columbia, on Sunday afternoon, according to officials.

An emergency alert was issued for all properties on Brown Road, Kensington Place and Caitlin Road at 3.45pm.

“The Spaulding Creek fire poses a threat to human life,” the statement said.

The Kootenay-Boundary County District said tactical evacuations are underway, with police and other emergency responders going door-to-door to inform and assist residents.

Residents are being directed to the Christina Lake Community Hall, where emergency services volunteers are expected to arrive Sunday afternoon.

The fire closed Highway 3 in both directions at the East Lake Drive bridge.

The BC Wildfire Service said the fire broke out on Sunday and provincial crews are assisting the local fire department with ground and air support.

“We are working with local government partners to protect public safety,” it said in a social media post.
