Study on the impact of artificial intelligence on the Malaysian labor market covering 10 strategic sectors, says HR minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — A study report on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the Malaysian labor market will cover 10 strategic sectors, said Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He said his ministry’s completed survey report will guide the evolution of roles and skills in the Malaysian labor market over the next three to five years.

“We hope to publish this report soon and we are ready to use the study to explore the impact of artificial intelligence in improving these sectors,” he said in his speech at the National Human Capital Conference and Exhibition (NHCCE) at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC) yesterday.

Sectors covered by the report included information and communications technology, global business services, aerospace, food manufacturing and services, wholesale and retail, electronics and engineering, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The report also covers medical devices, the energy, chemical, energy, maritime and offshore industries, tourism, hotels and accommodation.

On September 6, Sim announced that a study on the impact of artificial intelligence, digitalization and green economy on the labor market and workforce in Malaysia will be completed by the end of this month.

Commenting on NHCCE 2024, Sim said the event will be a forum where people’s views are challenged, ideas challenged and plans and strategies examined.

NHCCE 2024 will become the largest discussion platform in Southeast Asia, focusing on the role of artificial intelligence in the workplace and its implications for the future of jobs and the workforce.

Organized by the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp), NHCCE 2024, which will take place from tomorrow to Wednesday (October 2) at MITEC, aims to explore how to address the challenges and leverage the opportunities that artificial intelligence brings to the workforce and talent in the region . — Bernama
