State-owned hydropower utility SJVN announced on Saturday (September 28) that India is launching a tender for 6 GW of electricity from renewable energy projects with storage for peak supply.

India aims to connect 35 GW of solar and wind power to its grid by March 2025 as part of its decarbonization initiative to reach 500 GW of non-fossil power capacity.

According to Power technologyparent company GlobalData, wind and solar power generation in India continued to grow in 2023, with wind generating 83.39 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2023 and solar generating 115.97 TWh in 2023 , compared to 71.82 TWh and 102.01 TWh in 2022, respectively. Between April and August this year, the country added 10 GW of renewable capacity. Its total renewable capacity is currently 153 GW.
