Jon Ollwerther, executive vice president of Stan Lee Universe and Kartoon Studios, will speak on Tuesday, October 8 at the American Heritage Center (AHC) at the University of Wyoming.

Ollwerther will discuss “Stan Lee, the Real Superhero” at 5:15 p.m. in the AHC Breeder Room. His speech is free and open to the public.

The lecture will argue that Lee’s creative genius was a true superpower. Moving on to the Marvel creator’s career, Ollwerther’s remarks will touch on Lee’s time in the military, the creation of Marvel characters and his support of important social causes. Ollwerther will also discuss Marvel’s success in the film world and the development of the Stan Lee Universe and its new heroes.

“What if the greatest superhero ever created wasn’t Spider-Man, Black Panther, or even Iron Man? Instead, what if the greatest superhero Stan ever created was Stan Lee himself?” – asks Ollwerther. “Stan Lee was more than just a storyteller; “He was a real superhero.”

Paul Flesher, director of AHC UW, expresses his enthusiasm for Ollwerther’s lecture.

“We are thrilled to have someone as deeply invested as Jon in the worlds created by Stan Lee,” says Flesher. “He can speak from first-hand knowledge of Stan Lee himself, the world of Marvel comics and films, as well as the Stan Lee universe and its ongoing production of never-before-seen characters created by Lee.”

The AHC houses the only archival collection of materials created by Lee. For 30 years, Lee donated documents, photos and other materials. The collection consists of over 125 cubic feet of materials housed at AHC. The center is currently hosting the “Stan Lee: Beyond the Book” exhibition based on the AHC collection, which can be viewed until October.

“Arrive early before the lecture and check out the Stan Lee exhibit,” Flesher says.
