John Mozeliak has one more season left as St. Patrick’s coach. Louis Cardinals.

The organization announced a number of front office changes on Monday, a day after the 2024 season officially ended. They included Mozeliak, who will step down as president of baseball operations after the 2025 campaign.

Current adviser and former Boston Red Sox general manager Chaim Bloom will then replace Mozeliak. Bloom was hired ahead of the 2024 season and will now be tasked with overseeing the team’s player development system before taking on the top job at St. Louis.

“Chaim Bloom will oversee the reset of our player development system, effective immediately,” Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. said. “As part of an evaluation of last season, Chaim developed a plan to improve our infrastructure and player development philosophy.

“We will be making significant new investments in human resources programs and infrastructure that will begin immediately and continue over the coming years…We are excited about the future and determined to execute on this multi-year plan.”

Bloom signed a five-year contract that will keep him as the team’s president of baseball operations through the 2030 season.

Mozeliak first took over as Cardinals general manager in 2008. Under his tenure, the team won the 2011 World Series, winning six championships and two National League pennants. During this period, they also recorded only one undefeated season.

However, the Cardinals have struggled in recent years. This season they were just 83-79, they didn’t make the playoffs for the second year in a row, and they haven’t won a playoff series since 2019.

– I could have been fired today, right? Mozeliak told Bally Sports Midwest. “And then eventually they would come in and someone would have to reassess where we were and we would just be wasting time. … Once we hand over the keys to Chaim in this way, he will be able to walk on the ground.”

The Cardinals also announced that general manager Michael Girsch has been reassigned as the team’s new vice president of special projects. Girsch, who was hired in 2006, will not be replaced next season. Manager Ola Marmol will also return to the club next summer. Marmol just completed his third season with the Cardinals, marking his first managerial role in Major League Baseball. His career record is 247-239.
