Folie à Deux’ Eyes opened at the global box office with $140 million

Todd Phillips’ musical sequel Joker: Folie à Deux opens this week and is not currently expected to mimic the business of the 2019 Warner Bros film Jokerwhich ultimately finished as the second highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, grossing $1.07 billion, earning 11 Oscar nominations and earning two nominations, including for Joaquin Phoenix in the Best Leading Actor category.

As for the sequel, so far the global film is looking better than the domestic one, taking in $140 million, with currently lower projections of $55-60 million in 4,000 U.S. theaters with all the gimmicks of Imax and PLF screens. The original national forecast, when it achieved three-week tracking, was for more than $70 million.

First Joker exceeded the domestic forecast of $80 million for an all-time high opening of $96.2 million, and exceeded the global forecast of $155 million for $248.2 million (2019 figures not adjusted for inflation and currency fluctuations ).

Still, with net production costs exceeding $190 million, Joker: Folie à DeuxThe company’s expected business at this point is not bad for the exhibition and not necessarily bad for the film itself. Who doesn’t want a movie whose October box office opens at $55 million and $140 million? Does anyone not want that? Why so seriously, industry? Because they have business expectations for a sequel to The Dark Knight and many must remember that it is a sequel to an R-rated game. Taxi driver– like social commentary featuring a DC villain who just so happened to catch the wave and outperform.

The question is whether fanboys are willing to see a Gaga-Phoenix musical duet that will be almost as dark in tone as the first film. Nobody expected this first Joker go wild in its opening; there was a fear at the time that this would be the case The Dark Knight Rises copycat shootings. All these fears were dispelled as the film opened.

Similar to the first one JokerWarners held the world premiere of this sequel in Venice, though that didn’t help with reviews, which are at 62% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (compared to the first film’s 69% from critics). This hasn’t helped pre-sales, which currently indicate an opening lower than $55 million, although sources believe Joker 2 can get the current forecast. Previews begin on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the United States Joker 2 has first choice for older men, then younger men under 25, then older women over 25.
