8 gadgets every student needs: Uni Tech Essentials

Depending on the university you study at, the semester may already be starting… or just around the corner. Either way, to get the most out of your degree, you’ll need to meet a number of essential technical requirements. You may not need all of them, but a few of them can be the cornerstones of your learning that will take you from the first week of school to graduation.

We’ll cover tablets, Macs, and other cool tools that will make revision a breeze and help you complete your classes quickly.

Without further ado, here are 8 gadgets you should consider as a college student.

1. MacBook

They are elegant, stylish and extremely efficient. If you are a student and work on campus, there is a good chance that a large number of the laptops you will see are MacBooks.

If you have an iPhone, you know how reliable Apple products are. They may have less functionality than other gadgets, but the fact is that Apple stuff just works!

On iPhone, integration is seamless. The way devices in the Apple ecosystem work seamlessly together makes the MacBook an extremely attractive option for anyone who already owns an Apple phone – especially since you don’t have to learn a completely new operating system.

The only concern for MacBooks may be the price. With Apple, you usually pay a higher price. Even if this high price is worth it, it is often a lot to spend at once, especially for a student.

Well, with Mazuma, you can offset the cost of a new MacBook by selling older technology you have lying around.

2. Table

Maybe you don’t like laptops. And that’s understandable. After all, for some people, if you’re not working, you probably don’t open them and spend a lot of time on them.

Most tablets can handle word processing and other tasks of a similar intensity. In such a case, a tablet with a large screen and a detachable keyboard may prove to be a profitable alternative to a new laptop or MacBook.

Tablets are also a great option for those more interested in a portable media hub. If you were planning on using your MacBook for streaming, listening to music, and the occasional game – a powerful MacBook may be overkill. A tablet with a good screen, speakers and memory will help you in most situations.

If you’re looking for a new tablet for university, why not sell your old tablet for some quick cash to upgrade!

3. Good noise-cancelling headphones

This next option will be essential for several different types of students. Active noise cancellation can really help cut out background noise, helping you get into the swing of things when reviewing difficult situations.

If you live in a dorm, these will be especially useful because you’ll be able to easily block out all distractions – by listening to your own music, of course. Oh, and if you commute to campus every day, the ability to tune out the sounds of trains, buses, and general chatter cannot be underestimated. For some students, they will be an absolute necessity. Others will probably get by with a cheaper pair of earbuds. We will leave this decision to you.

4. Reliable power bank

For longer study sessions when you’re away from home, the battery levels on various devices may become slightly low. You won’t always have a power outlet handy, and carrying around multiple bulky chargers probably isn’t very convenient.

For this reason, a power bank is a must. Since most devices are now compatible with the USB-C standard, one power bank and cable can go really long distances and provide a much-needed backup for most devices.

5. Streaming device

University doesn’t have to be ALL jobs. You will have moments where you finish your work, have no plans to socialize, and have nothing else to do.

In times like these, having access to something that allows you to stream your favorite movies and TV shows is a must! This device could be your laptop, iPad, game console, or even something like a Fire TV Stick.

Fire TV Sticks can be great because they are extremely portable and a perfect choice for big screen movie nights if you can find them.

Oh, and now your Fire Stick can function as an Xbox via cloud streaming. So if you have an old Xbox, why not sell it with Mazuma and use the cash to buy the other gadgets listed here.

6. Printer

Depending on your college and whether you’re on campus or in the city, you may not always have access to a printer. And even if it does, it may not be free to use!

Many universities still require you to physically print your coursework, and if a deadline is approaching, you may not have time to wander around town looking for a place to print. Having your own printer can be a lifesaver in situations like these for you and your friends.

7. Wi-Fi extension

Dorms and residence halls aren’t known for having great Wi-Fi, so if you’re someone who uses the internet a lot, which is like everyone else these days, a Wi-Fi extender may be for you.

For example, if you do any group work that requires the use of Teams or similar software, you may have difficulty getting a good connection if you are assigned an attic room about 500 meters away from the router. A Wi-Fi extender won’t revolutionize your Wi-Fi speeds, but it can be a useful tool to help you in particularly difficult situations.

8. Telephone

Yes, you probably, well… you DEFINITELY have a phone. I mention this because it cannot be underestimated how important a social hub your phone can be while at university. Whether it’s for group chats to join projects, hosting social gatherings, or just staying up to date with college updates, a phone and relevant social media accounts are a must!

And that’s it. You probably already have a few, in which case pack them up. However, if you don’t, selling your old tech can be a great way to get them all at a discount. So sell your old tech and get ready to study for less with Mazuma.
