Microsoft has released a list of known issues with the 24H2 update – and it’s not good news for gamers or those with newer Intel processors.

If you have a 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake processor or later, or are using Intel’s vPro platform, Windows 11 24H2 may cause games that use kernel-level anti-cheat software, Easy Anti-Cheat, to crash. This means that loading popular shooters like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Fortnite and Destiny can trigger the infamous “blue screen of death”. Driving games Asphalt 8 and Rocket League may also have issues with the new version of Windows.

Microsoft says it is working to resolve the Easy Anti-Cheat compatibility issue. “In rare cases, when users open or play certain games, this issue causes affected devices to become unresponsive and display a blue screen with a ‘MEMORY_MANAGEMENT’ error.” Most devices experiencing this issue are using Easy Anti-Cheat drivers released before April 2024.” – writes Microsoft, adding: “To ensure the security of updates, we have applied a compatibility lock on devices that run incompatible Easy Anti-Cheat drivers. These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11 version 24H2.”

The company is also holding off on rolling out the update to people who have Asphalt 8 on their computers, writing: “We have applied a compatibility lock on devices running Asphalt 8. These devices will not be able to install Windows 11 24H2 via the Windows Update Release Channel.”

Microsoft also found other Intel compatibility issues with 24H2. 11th Generation Intel Core processors running a new version of Windows may experience compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers if the driver version is 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152. However, updating the Smart Sound driver to a newer version may solve this problem.

Windows 24H2 is a significant software update that includes several new features for Copilot+ computers. It also enables Wi-Fi 7 support, Bluetooth audio improvements, new File Explorer, updated Wi-Fi options and settings, new Remote Desktop features, and much more.

The latest Windows update, KB5043145, also causes serious compatibility issues with some computers. The September 26 update caused some users’ computers to crash, display blue or green screens, trigger reboot loops, and cut off connections to USB and Bluetooth devices. Fortunately, Microsoft has added a fix through the Known Issues Rollback service, but you may need to restart your computer to apply the fix.
