Video editing app Captions launches an AI-powered social media manager for websites

The AI-powered video editing app Captions offers a new tool for websites that manages your video content posting schedule and even generates videos for those dates based on topics relevant to your site.

The tool first scans your site for content, keywords, service offerings, and the site’s key selling points, and then creates a content plan. At the moment, the social media strategy is primarily focused on Instagram Reels and TikTok in the form of videos, which is not surprising considering that Captions specializes in video creation and editing. The company has stated that it will consider other formats in the future.

The company believes the tool could help a small cafe highlight chefs and dishes, or generate videos about the services offered by a dental clinic. The AI-powered social media manager also takes into account relevant seasonal trends.

In June, the startup launched a feature to automatically create and edit videos based on a 12-character AI suggestion. The new tools use website content and relevant trends as a place to create suggestions and then videos based on them. Since it is a business tool, the seller can upload their profile to create a digital twin and the AI tool will create videos through this persona. Additionally, they can also apply their brand identity to videos, including custom colors, logos, and fonts.

When we asked Gaurav Misra, CEO of Captions, about AI-generated videos taking away the authenticity of creators who put effort into creating content for their businesses, he said that this tool helps people who don’t have the resources to create high-quality content themselves.

“I think in this case these companies are not trying to be popular. I think they want to have an online presence and they want something that people understand about their company. And that’s what we help people achieve here,” he said

Misra added that business owners already have a lot of tasks to do, and with the new AI social media manager, they don’t have to learn video recording and editing from scratch to create content.

The captions also said that in the future, this will allow companies to place more pages off their website so that AI can create a better content plan.

In July, Captions raised $60 million in Series C funding from Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, as well as new investors Adobe Ventures, HubSpot Ventures and Jared Leto. The company plans to use this money to develop its own artificial intelligence.

“We have been in business for three and a half years and have raised a total of $100 million. We have remained neutral in terms of cash flow. Our goal with the funds raised is to actually invest in artificial intelligence because I think the opportunity is huge,” Misra said.

“Everything you can capture with a camera today, you will be able to create using artificial intelligence in a few years. Fidelity will also improve in the future. Long term, we’re trying to create a world where you don’t have to physically record or edit videos to have something you want to share.”

The company is making this feature available to its Max, which costs $25 per month, and Scale, which costs $70 per month, to users of its paid plan.
