BSE SENSEX Sixty 65:35, BSE SENSEX Sixty, BSE Power and Energy Index: Three new indices launched by Asia Index

Asia Index Private Ltd., a subsidiary of BSE, officially launched three new indices today. These indices are BSE SENSEX Sixty 65:35, BSE SENSEX Sixty and BSE Power and Energy Index.

The BSE SENSEX Sixty 65:35 Index is a strategic index that has components of both BSE SENSEX and BSE SENSEX Next 30 in the ratio of 65:35. This index consists of 60 components that collectively represent over 55% of the total free float market capitalization of all listed companies in India. This ratio has been specifically designed to provide slightly greater exposure to Next 30 ingredients compared to the traditional free-float market capitalization method.

On the other hand, the BSE SENSEX Sixty Index consists of the BSE SENSEX and BSE SENSEX Next 30 components, as per their free float capitalization.

Both indices have a base value of 10,000 and their first value date is June 23, 2014. They are reconstructed every six months and rebalanced every quarter. Additionally, USD variants are available, namely BSE SENSEX Sixty USD and BSE SENSEX Sixty 65:35 USD.

The BSE Power and Energy thematic index tracks the performance of BSE 500 companies in the Energy and Utility sectors. It reflects the weighted performance of the components in these sectors. The index, which has a base value of 1,000 as of December 31, 2013, is reconstituted every six months and rebalanced quarterly. Share weighting is determined by free-float market capitalization, with each share in the index limited to 15%. Additionally, there is a USD variant known as BSE Power and Energy USD.

The indexes are suitable for comparing PMS strategies, MF programs and fund portfolios. They can also be used in passive strategies such as ETFs and index funds, and to evaluate the performance of companies in these sectors. Investors now have access to a wider range of market opportunities by enhancing their investment strategies with BSE’s latest additions to the index suite.

Ashutosh Singh, MD & CEO, Asia Index Pvt Limited, said, “These indices are in line with the broader BSE Group philosophy of listening to the voice of the customer and creating products that appeal to both investors and asset managers. I hope to continue to deliver more meaningful products by working closely with capital market participants.”
