Colorado Springs police are warning the community about an increase in credit card skimmers

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is warning the community about an increase in the number of credit card duplicating machines in the community.

On Friday, CSPD told News5 they have seen more incidents of these devices being used in the following locations over the past few months:

  • gas pumps
  • self-service checkouts
  • restaurants where customers pay directly at their tables

“Everyone has fueled up a few times, so you know what it feels like when you put the card in that machine, so if you have to force the card into the machine, it could be… a skimmer, but, I would say just stop, don’t force it and find another place to go,” said Sgt. CSPD’s Rob Ferri.
Another way to avoid having your information stolen is to pay another way.

“I usually just pay with my card by tap or use Apple Pay on my iPhone to stay away from that because it messes up the numbers,” said community member Kelsey Delosh.

CSPD also recommends checking bank statements carefully and reporting unauthorized transactions immediately.
