Comparing PS5 Pro to PS5 in The Last of Us Part 2 revealed key differences

Digital Foundry, a technology expert widely considered to be the gold standard for gaming hardware and software failures, has managed to gain unrestricted access to the PS5 port of Naughty Dog The Last of Us Part 2. Tech experts have compared Sony’s new PSSR upscaling technology on the PS5 Pro with the standard PS5 and the results are either very interesting or completely irrelevant.

Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement wasn’t very well received by fans for a variety of reasons, with most complaints pointing to the console’s price and its higher graphical quality compared to the standard PS5. Digital Foundry has now tested this in The Last of Us Part 2 and the results were surprising. Tech experts found that PS5 Pro and PSSR deliver sharper image fidelity than the standard PS5. Additionally, the PS5 Pro generated smoother image stability than the PS5 while maintaining a higher frame rate.

While these results are good and in line with what’s expected from a much more expensive console, Digital Foundry points out that viewing distances and display sizes will have a huge impact on whether these graphical improvements are noticed at all. Comments on the Digital Foundry video noted that the graphical differences between the Pro and Standard consoles are only really visible when you zoom in, and that if a player is playing on a TV from more than six feet away, it will be extremely difficult to see any improvement.
