From IoT to the future of security

Jon Turdijew: You’re right, the development of patient care devices has come with its own unique set of challenges and safety issues. This involved processing sensitive data such as medical records and real-time health data from wearable devices, which required stringent measures to protect privacy and data integrity. Compliance with regulations such as HIPAA was mandatory, requiring robust authentication, system hardening, vulnerability management, and audit controls. High availability and resiliency were critical as system failures could potentially be life-threatening. We had to implement redundancy, failover mechanisms and ensure overall reliability. Additionally, we had to accommodate a diverse user base – doctors, nurses, patients – across different care settings such as hospitals and homes, enforcing access to the least privilege level and making security intuitive for all types of users.
