Mosaic Insurance appoints Francesca Harland

Mosaic Insurance has appointed Francesca Harland as global director of professional liability, replacing Anna Jay to revitalize its agency business and recognizing Harland’s contributions since the launch of the unit.

A spokesman said: “Mosaic Insurance has appointed Francesca Harland as its new global director of professional liability.

“Harland, the unit’s lead underwriter since its inception, succeeds Anna Jay, who was named the company’s new Active Underwriter, Syndicate 1609, in July. The move was part of a restructuring of the underwriting and operations teams to drive growth of Mosaic’s core agency business.

“We are thrilled to announce Francesca’s promotion, recognizing the value she has brought to Mosaic and her ability to strategically drive the business forward,” Jay said. “Professional responsibility is Mosaic’s core class, embodying the key characteristics we look for in business portfolios and standing out from the rest by offering expert knowledge in carefully selected specialist segments. We continue to see many opportunities to grow the portfolio, both in terms of segment and geographic reach, and Francesca has the right experience and approach to deliver this.”

A spokesman said: “Mosaic has built a trusted reputation in the professional liability space as a leading marketplace for non-mainstream risks in technically complex sectors and specialist industries. The company has built a successful franchise, increasing gross written premium (GWP) in this industry by almost 400 percent since the launch of the unit in June 2021.

“Harland has extensive experience in the industry, focusing on diverse and emerging risks and working with clients to develop niche products in this area. She joined Mosaic in 2021 from Pembroke Syndicate 4000, where she had been an underwriter since 2015, and played a key role in building Mosaic’s professional liability portfolio, growing its account both in the U.S. and abroad.”

A spokesman said: “With a current team of 10 specialists overseeing a wide range of areas, the unit provides errors and omissions and post-event (litigation) cover. Target clients include specialist engineers from the energy, renewables, marine, transport and industrial sectors, as well as lawyers, actuaries, P&I club managers, security consultants, underwriting agents and insurance brokers.

“Mosaic’s evolution as a global agency continues, with its operations increasingly driven by commercially capitalized partners across seven specialist lines. The company currently underwrites on behalf of 26 insurers (and growing) globally, generating over $1 billion in GWP over the past two years for agency partners. In addition to professional liability, its business lines include political violence, transactional liability, cyber, political risk, financial institutions and environmental liability.
