UP is hosting a conference on artificial intelligence-based research and innovation

The University of the Philippines will host an inaugural two-day conference highlighting the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in key sectors of Philippine society and economy.

“AI Horizons PH ’24: Conference on Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation” will be held on October 24 and 25, 2024 at the BGC Campus of the University of the Philippines.

The conference will bring together leading experts, policymakers and innovators to discuss cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence across four key topics: food security (agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries), education and management, materials and energy, and health and well-being.

“AI Horizons PH ’24 is a pivotal moment for the Philippines in harnessing the power of artificial intelligence” – UP President Atty. Angelo Jimenez emphasized. “This conference aligns with our administration’s key flagship programs, focusing on research and innovation, active, collaborative partnerships, and digital transformation.”

The most important features of the conference include:

– High-profile keynote speakers from government and industry, including cabinet secretaries and leading figures in AI innovation;

– Case studies presenting real-world applications of AI in critical sectors;

– Panel discussions with experts from academia, government and the private sector; AND

– Networking for cooperation between different stakeholders.

More than 200 participants are expected to attend from a variety of sectors, including the UP system and its constituent universities, other higher education institutions, government agencies, private sector entities and the media.

“This conference is not just about showcasing technology, but also about shaping the future of our nation,” said Dr. Gisela Concepcion, special advisor to the president of UP for research and innovation. “We are bringing together the brightest minds to tackle some of our most pressing challenges using AI-powered solutions.”

The conference aims to:

– Identify key research priorities and gaps in AI applications in the Philippines;

– Develop policy recommendations for the integration of artificial intelligence in research and innovation;

– Supporting new joint projects and partnerships; AND

– Inspire the next generation of AI researchers and innovators.
