Confab works to reduce poverty through technology – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

People in the South-South and Southeast region have been committed to improving their digital technologies and capabilities to increase economic space for development, reducing unemployment and poverty in the region and beyond.

The organizer of the Start Up South 9 conference held recently in Port Harcourt, Mr. Uche Aniche, has stressed the need for Nigerians and the government to start thinking about the technology economy rather than focusing on oil.

Therefore, rethinking the economic diversification strategy will revive the country’s ailing economy.

Aniche said there is raw talent in the country, especially in the South-South region, which, if properly trained and harnessed, can bring massive economic transformation.

He called on the government and organizations to support this vision.

According to him, the conference aims to unite people, inspire both young talents and experienced people to use technology to reduce poverty,

“The conference has evolved to reflect the dynamic technological and economic landscape, strengthening its position as the leading technology and business innovation conference in the South-South regions of Nigeria.” He said.

Commenting on the topic “Securing the Future of Technology”, Yen Choi from Chiplab emphasized the role of microchips.

He agreed that the technology economy could play a key role in reviving the Nigerian economy.

He said: “The technology economy is important in Nigeria, instead of relying solely on the export of crude oil, we can also think about a technology economy developing new technologies and exporting it around the world.”

He lamented that there were no Microchip designers in the country and advocated for Microchip designers to be taught in schools, calling on organizations and governments to sponsor training on the subject.

According to him, “we tend to train microchip designers off the coast of Nigeria to further boost the country’s economy.”

Ms. Nkechi Egerton Idehen from Nig Com Sat spoke on the topic “Satellites and the future of communications”. In her opinion, satellites are an excellent technology to complement the Internet, especially when access to connections is difficult.

In her words, “NigComSat is passionate about startups. We want to provide access to the network via satellites, especially in rural areas where people have difficulties with good Internet coverage. We want satellites to be an inclusive technology for everyone in the future.”

“The most important thing for a tech startup owner is customer experience, which is why we’re so interested in startups to help them create a good customer experience in the future because satellite startups won’t get stuck when their internet connection goes down.”

Other numerous speakers at the Conference emphasized the need to focus on the technology economy.
