New photos show the extent of the overgrown land cleared in 2019 for homes that were finally approved last month

Bushes and trees on land on Myatt Avenue in Parkfields, Wolverhampton, were cleared in 2019 to make way for affordable homes which the council announced were due to be built in 2020 and 2021.

Although the planning application for the seven homes was approved in 2020, it was amended in 2022 and then not approved for a further six months, until 2023.

Another application was submitted in June and approved this month.

Wolverhampton Council said the Myatt Avenue homes were part of a “wider, phased program to deliver affordable housing” and the delay was due to a change in building regulations and the need to redesign the site.

By this time the bush has returned and photos show the entire area will need to be cleared again before any houses can be built.

A Wolverhampton Council spokesman said: “This development was part of a wider phased program to deliver affordable housing, during which the council re-assessed the accessibility of each site.

“The site south of Myatt Avenue is complex and due to changes in building regulations, there was a need to resize the facility to be slightly larger.

“This meant the development needed to be redesigned to comply with the regulations, prompting a new planning application to be submitted.”
