The Buffalo City Municipality has issued a stern warning following the arrest of a taxi driver who crammed a staggering 42 learners into his vehicle.

City spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said the driver was arrested on Thursday and his vehicle with faulty brakes was also impounded.

He added that the driver was also a “repeat offender”.

“The Metro advises parents who choose to have their children travel via public transport rather than via private contracts to be involved.

“Traffic officers counted 37 children in the taxi while 7 ran away while the case was being processed,” Ngwenya said.

He added that while they suspected the parents may not have been aware of the driver’s actions, he added that “ignorance” was no excuse and parents should also take responsibility of their children.

“The metro is committed to intensifying roadblocks and patrols against dangerous and dangerous driving,” Ngwenya said.
