Trump’s bizarre off-topic stroll raises alarm over ‘mental capacity’

Donald Trump’s rambling speech at the Detroit Economic Club on Thursday strayed so far from the topic at times that critics raised new questions about his focus and mental abilities.

Trump trashed Detroit while speaking in Detroit, attempted to define the word “grocery store” and got defensive over the size of his crowd while he spoke for three hours.

In a 90-second span, he went from manufacturing to Elon Musk’s SpaceX rockets, to President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign amid COVID restrictions, to election conspiracy theories, and then to how United States has been “abused” by other countries.

“It’s so simple,” Trump said of his proposals to use the threat of tariffs to increase U.S. manufacturing production.

“It’s not like Elon, with his rockets landing within 12 inches of the moon where they want them to land or him recovering the engines,” he said. “That was the first time, I really, I said ‘who the hell did that.’ I saw engines about three or four years ago. These things were coming, cylinders, no wings, nothing, and they were descending very slowly, landing on a raft in the middle of the ocean, somewhere with a circle. Boom!”

The word “circle” took Trump in a new direction.

“It reminded me of the Biden circles he had, didn’t it? Trump said, referring to the circles placed on the grounds in 2020 to help guests keep social distance amid the raging COVID-19 pandemic. “He would have eight circles and he wouldn’t be able to fill them.”

Trump then used this to launch his grievances regarding the 2020 election, which he lost, and reference his debunked conspiracy theories.

“But then I heard he beat us with the popular vote, I don’t know, I don’t know, he couldn’t fill all eight circles,” Trump said, before adding again:

“I always loved these circles, they were so beautiful, so beautiful to look at. Actually, the person who did them, that was the best thing about him, the level of that circle was great, but they couldn’t attract people, so they used to have a press stand in these circles because they couldn’t attract people. . Then I heard we lost. “Oh, we lost.” No, we will never let this happen again. But we have been mistreated by other countries, we have been mistreated by our own politicians, more than by other countries.

While still running against Biden, Trump accused his rival of cognitive problems and challenged him to take a cognitive test.

Today, however, critics are raising the same questions about Trump — and many have been baffled and alarmed by the shift in consciousness in his latest speech:
