Somerset Motorcycle Group raises funds for local ‘Buy with a Cop’ programs

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) – A group of motorcycle riders from Somerset is bringing holiday cheer to area children thanks to funds they raised during a recent charity event.

The Highland Riders Chapter of the Somerset Harley Owners Group hosted a “Poker Run” benefit event, offering participants a scenic ride through Somerset County. Riders enjoyed the prizes and camaraderie while raising money for an important cause.

This year, the group raised $200 for Cambria County’s “Shop with a Cop” program and $600 for Somerset’s “Shop with a Cop” program. In the past, funds raised from the event were awarded to the winning participants, but this year the Highland Riders decided to donate the proceeds to help children in need.

Craig Sipe, director of the Somerset Highland Riders, explained the group’s decision to give back: “We love giving to kids, and I think it’s a special thing that they can ride around with police officers and see that police officers are their friends. Making a child’s Christmas is a great feeling.

The Highland Riders presented the donations to officers of the two counties’ Shop with a Cop programs Wednesday evening, ensuring that more local children will enjoy a brighter holiday season this year.
